Crest Canyon, a City of San Diego open space park, fills a bowl-shaped valley that slopes down from Del Mar Heights Road on the south to San Dieguito Lagoon on the north. On the broad canyon floor, native sage-scrub and chaparral vegetation mixes with scattered Torrey pines. Some large pine specimens, probably a century old, cling picturesquely to the canyon’s side walls.
