The Mummy

The Mummy Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This short hike has everything going for it in a compact package. Within only 1 mile you’ll see a huge distinctive formation, a small arch, a natural bridge, and a glimpse of history thrown in for good measure. And to top it off, Mummy Canyon is easily accessible from a paved road.

From the parking pullout climb a low berm and drop into the main Furnace Creek Wash. Look down the wash and you’ll see a side canyon that enters from the right, bound by brown columnar hillsides. This is Mummy Canyon. You can actually see the backside of the mummy-shaped formation from here, although it blends into the hillside on the far side of the canyon. When you get a lot closer you’ll know it when you see it."

Walk down the cobblestone wash as it parallels the road about 0.2 mile to the wide mouth of Mummy Canyon, which is also known as Jensen Canyon. At the mouth veer right and head straight north toward the canyon. Notice the amazing array of cacti, with the most prominent being beavertail, barrel, prickly pear, and silver cholla." Read more
