The Grandstand

The Grandstand Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Grandstand is a high mound of dark rock contrasting dramatically within the gleaming white Racetrack Playa. A mountainous backdrop, intense isolation, and outstanding scenic views await the visitor. The Grandstand is about 0.5 mile directly east of the parking area. It consists of a
large, 70-foot-high mound of gray rocks rising in stark contrast to the surrounding white flatness of the Racetrack Playa, a dry lake bed.

For added perspective, walk around the Grandstand then scramble up some of the large boulders. The Grandstand can be easily climbed 40 to 50 feet above the playa. Don’t expect to see the famous “moving rocks” here, as they are found a couple of miles to the south. The Grandstand provides a superb perspective of formidable 5,678-foot-high Ubehebe Peak, rising 2,000 feet 1.5 miles to the west."
