Sonora Pass to Echo Lake Resort Professional Review and Guide
"From Sonora Pass (9620') the PCT starts north, paralleling westbound Highway 108, and it quickly crosses a trailheadparking spur road (9610–0.2) at a point about 70 yards from the highway (no camping allowed at trailhead). On a generally northward course, it then winds in and out of more than a dozen gullies before reaching a switchback (10,080–1.7). Ahead, the eastern traverse can be made impassable in early season by steep snowbanks. Also, in some years, the tread virtually disappears in one steep-sloped spot just before a crest saddle. So if you encounter intimidating problems, backtrack and take a cross-country route around them."
