Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"In the 1930 ’s the Santa Clara Valley was much different than it is today. Orchards and ranches dominated the valley, earning it the nickname, "The Valley of Heart ’s Delight. "Prominent among these was the McClellan Ranch in Cupertino. Today, much of the original ranch is preserved along McClellan Road. The ranch house and the barn give the visitor a sense of what life was like back then. Two additional historic buildings —The Baer ’s Blacksmith Shop and the water tower from the Parish Ranch —were moved from other sites nearby to preserve them here, adding to the appeal of McClellan Ranch Park . The De Anza College campus serves as the starting point for this ride. The route takes you first through residential areas of Cupertino and Saratoga and past the Mountain Winery, site of a summer concert series. After that comes the main climb of the ride along Congress Springs Road (Highway 9)to get to Redwood Gulch Road and the steep descent into Stevens Canyon. Stevens Canyon Road then leads through the beautiful canyon along Stevens Creek to Stevens Canyon Dam and Reservoir. The final stretch back to De Anza College is along McClellan Road and passes the historic McClellan Ranch."
