Tecate Cypress Preserve

Tecate Cypress Preserve Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Tecate forest burned in the 1982 Gypsum Fire, the 2002 Green Fire, and the 2006 Sierra Fire. While the cypress depends on periodic wildfires to open its hard, woody cones and spread seeds, fires that happen too often kill seedlings before they have a chance to mature.

Another wildfire in the near future could wipe out this forest. For now, however, you can see seedlings regrowing and a few mature trees that have survived the repeated burns."
