The town of Cloverdale is tucked into the rolling hills of northern Sonoma County on the banks of the Russian River. Cloverdale River Park stretches 1.3 miles along the west bank of the river from First Street, near downtown, to McCray Road at the north end. A mile-long paved trail follows the river through the 72- acre park, passing fresh water marshes, grassland meadows, oak woodlands, riparian scrub, and riparian forest. This hike begins from the southern trailhead, but the trail can be started from either entrance.
