Wild Horse Canyon Road Drive

Wild Horse Canyon Road Drive Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This road was designated a National Back Country Byway during the time of the BLM-managed East Mojave Scenic Area, predecessor of today’s national preserve. You’ll drive through broad high-desert scenery, although much of it burned in wildfires in 2005. The jumbled and eroded volcanic formations at Hole-in-the-Wall are interesting. The road connects to Macedonia Canyon Road about midway through, and Black Canyon Road at either end. An 8-mile hiking trail descends from Mid Hills campground to Wild Horse Canyon Road, passing through cactus gardens and rock formations. Explore the volcanic formations at Hole-in-the-Wall, and don’t miss the short Ring Trail hike there, which involves scrambling down rock chutes via metal rings embedded in the rock."
