Upper Bidwell Park Loop

Upper Bidwell Park Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"With extensive views over the Central Valley and the rugged arroyo of Big Chico Creek, this day hiker’s loop takes in a variety of foothill scenery, from grassland to woodland to craggy volcanic ridges, including the spectacular basalt palisades of the North Rim and the cliffs above Big Chico Creek’s entrenched inner canyon. Owned by the City of Chico, Bidwell Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the country, and most of Upper Bidwell Park is wild. From a naturalist’s point of view, this trail is ideal to begin a book of Sierra hiking, because it starts in the grasslands of the Sacramento Valley, climbs to the dry foothills through chaparral and oak woodlands, and descends a watercourse back to the grasslands, giving an overview of the western edge of the range."
