Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Not as inspirational as it used to be (thanks to maturing forest) and not the best overall view from a Juniper Lake area summit (Mt. Harkness takes that honor), the easily obtained vista from Inspiration Point is nevertheless a fine reward for the little effort required.

A somewhat steep but relatively short climb gets hikers to the viewpoint, where a number of noteworthy landmarks can be seen, including Lassen Peak and several other summits and lakes."

Although the hike is super short the views of Snag Lake, Cinder Cone, Prospect Peak, and the Lava Beds are outstanding, especially considering the low elevation of the knolls at Inspiration Point. It is a steep climb but very rewarding in a short amount of time (the hike is only about a mile and a half)! You will hike through a lovely forest of Western white pines, lodgepole pines, red firs, and Jeffrey pines. You will also be able to view Lassen Peak to the west and Mount Tehama and Juniper Lake to the south. Of course, the beautiful snow-capped summit of Mount Shasta can be seen to the northwest. After you leave the trail be sure to take in some of the other lovely and interesting day hikes and landmarks that Lassen Volcanic National Park has to offer.
