Nicholas Flats - Charmlee Connector Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"Nicholas Flat, located in Leo Carrillo State Park, is a grassy highland meadow with large oak trees, a manmade pond, and rock outcroppings. This hike skirts around Nicholas Flat with spectacular views of the ocean, San Nicholas Canyon, and the surrounding mountains. The Nicholas Flat Trail may be hiked 3.5 miles downhill to the Pacific Ocean."
--Robert Stone, Day Hikes around Los Angeles (Day Hike Books).
"Nicholas Flat harbors a small oasis of live oaks and an old cattle pond backed by picturesque sandstone outcrops. During the spring, the grassy meadows above the pond may put on an eye-popping wildflower show."
--Jerry Schad , Afoot & Afield Los Angeles County (Wilderness Press).
"Hike in the upper reaches of Leo Carrillo State Park, through beautiful meadows, and take in heavenly views of the mountains and coast. This hike begins at the upper trailhead for Malibu Springs. Stay left and walk through the meadow, where outstanding views of the Santa Monica Mountains are simply par for the course. In less than 0.1 mile the trail branches into a Y, where the mountain views quickly subside. Turn left to follow the trail into Nicholas Flat—the right fork heads down to Malibu Springs."
