Plantation and Prairie Trails San Andreas Rift Zone Professional Review and Guide
"The Plantation and Prairie Trails follow the crest of a coastal ridge along the San Andreas Rift Zone in Salt Point State Park. The two trails meander through a dense forest of towering redwoods, pine, fir, and madrones. The Prairie Trail leads to a vast, thousand-foot hilltop meadow known as The Prairie, where deer and hawks are frequently seen. En route to The Prairie, the trail passes sag ponds—water-filled depressions formed by the sinking ground along the San Andreas Fault. The quiet trails offer an away-from-the-crowds hike. This hike begins from Kruse Ranch Road at the north end of the state park."
