A cool, forested journey on gently graded tread leads to lovely Root Creek just inside the southeast corner of Castle Crags Wilderness. Springtime hikers will delight in the colorful wildflowers, including columbines, lady slippers, tiger lilies, western azaleas, and several varieties of orchids. Flowering dogwoods offer additional color, from changing leaves in autumn to white flowers in spring. Root Creek is a fine spot for a picnic lunch or for simply admiring nature’s handiwork.
