The Old Coast Road was the primary route of travel along this mountainous coastal stretch prior to 1 932, when the 260-foot- high Bixby Bridge was opened. This hike begins at the Big Sur Valley in Andrew Molera State Park near the mouth of the Big Sur River—at the south end of the Old Coast Highway. The wind- ing, breathtaking route curves along hillsides, offering panoramic vistas of the coastline and interior mountains.
