Los Padres Dam to Carmel River Campsite Trail

Los Padres Dam to Carmel River Campsite Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Walk through the gate. The hike to the dam along the service road used by California American Water Company is one of the easiest places to access Los Padres National Forest. Follow the 0.75-mile dirt road to the dam past two large meadows above the river. The road drops down to the lower meadow. If you have a water-loving dog, turn right at the fork and follow the road down to the river’s edge below the spillway and the abandoned fish ladder to the swimming hole."

The swimming holes (3) along the trip are super great. Lot's of up and down and good mix of shady and sunny. Good trail for a dog; beware of horses, poison oak, and rattle snakes. We camped overnight at Carmel River Campsite; there were two sites on the east side of the river, and several across the river and upstream a little ways. Our large dog is tired, and her feet are beat.
