Bull Run Lake Trail

Bull Run Lake Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The focal point for hot and tired hikers arriving at Bull Run Lake is an inviting granite island, which attracts swimmers like flies. Unless you are completely unselfconscious, pack a bathing suit for yourself, life vests for the non-swimmers, and fishing poles for everyone, then plan to spend a long day at this delightfully accessible lake. Bull Run Lake is reached by a relatively short 3.7-mile trail, making it an ideal day trip. The lake is also a relaxing backpacking destination with spacious campsites. On weekends the lake can be very crowded. Ambitious hikers can take the basic hike and turn it into a loop as described below."

"Ascending a tributary ravine of the upper Stanislaus River, fording streams, traversing deep forest and lush meadow, the Bull Run Lake Trail passes through such varied and beautiful terrain that the journey is the highlight of the trip. Bull Run makes a splendid day hike, but backpackers also enjoy its pretty setting and easy access."

Nice day hike, but not any good for fishing (late season at least) or swimming unless you like a lake full of cow poo. There are some beautiful campsites, however, and we certainly enjoyed the stay.
