Orcutt Ranch Horticulture Center

Orcutt Ranch Horticulture Center Professional Review and Guide

"Orcutt Ranch Horticulture Center is tucked away at the west end of the San Fernando Valley in West Hills. The 200-acre estate was the vacation home of William and Mary Orcutt, dating back to 1917. The tree-studded estate, designated as a historical monument, was purchased by the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department in 1966 and opened to the public. The mission-style home with 16-inch thick adobe walls and a large patio area is nestled under the shade of ancient oaks, including a 700-year-old coastal live oak with a 33-foot circumference. Exotic plants and trees are planted on several acres around the former residence. Amid the fountains and statues are rattan palms, cork oaks, dogwoods, sycamores, birch, bunya bunya trees, purple lily magnolias, Chinese wisterias, bamboo, and a rose garden. An orchard of citrus and walnut groves covers the adjacent rolling hills."
