Espinosa Trail Professional Review and Guide
"If you can arrange to be dropped off at the east end of this route and picked up later at the west end, this can be an enjoyable and rather easy trip across the mountains. Do it in the early spring, if possible, when the chaparral blooms and water bubbles down even the most insignificant ravines."
--Jerry Schad, Afoot & Afield: San Diego County (Wilderness Press).
This trail really makes you feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere! There is no cell service (for verizon at least) but I did get 4G coverage so I could track my trail with gps. I really enjoyed the seclusion of this trail. I chose to walk down into the canyon and found an area with many trees, brush, and wildlife. I made my way to the water hole and the end of the trail. It was full and a pretty nice peaceful spot. If I were going to backpack camp, I would chose a spot somewhere around here.
I look forward to doing this trail again.
