William R. Hearst State Beach to San Simeon Point Professional Review and Guide

"The San Simeon Bay Trail begins at William R. Hearst State Beach along a crescent of white sand. The hike leads to the tip of San Simeon Point, a peninsula extending a half mile into the ocean. The bluff top trails are on the private property of the Hearst Ranch, and although the trails are frequently used, there are no public easements to the point. At the point are beach coves, dramatic rock formations and tidepools. The trail follows the bluffs through a beautiful forest of eucalyptus, pine, cedar and cypress trees. Portions of the bluff top cliffs are unstable and caution is advised."

This was a beautiful and easy hike. On a warm day, there's plenty of shade from the trees. Besides spectacular views of the cove and point, there's lots of flora and fauna to see along the way. Along the way you hear sea otters below the bluffs and the Eucalyptus trees creaking when the breeze picks up. Bring a sweatshirt because once you reach the point, it gets windier. You can keep going & hike along the bluff trails or go inland a little and walk through an enchanting Eucalyptus-lined avenue.

When you do this trail consider stopping just south of the light house in San Simeon at a very obvious parking area right off coast Hwy 1 to view the elephant seals. Disgusting, yet way cool.
