Hidden Lake

Hidden Lake Professional Review and Guide

"The hike: With a name like Hidden Lake, you might expect this to be a difficult hike into a remote, hard-to-find basin. Don’t come here if that’s what you’re after. In reality, Hidden Lake is one of the most accessible, easy-to-reach bodies of water in the Trinity Alps. It’s a pretty little 3-acre lake in a rugged cirque gouged into the north side of the Scott Mountains—a good destination for a short day hike (when a picnic is the priority), or even an overnight trip for families with small children. Highlights: A short hike to a pretty little lake on the north side of the Scott Mountains divide."

"The almost mile-long trip to Hidden Lake is an excellent choice for young children or beginner backpackers, and the lake is far enough away from population centers to protect it from the use a lake of this caliber would normally receive. You should be able to find a decent campsite, take a dip, drop a line, and generally have a good time without having to battle the masses. Although not as dramatic as many of the Trinity Alps lakes, Hidden Lake is a nice spot to enjoy a couple hours, or even days. The trail dead ends at the lake, but the truly adventurous will find the peaks above the lake to be sufficiently challenging."
