Lower Ritchey Canyon Loop Redwood Trail–Ritchey Canyon Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Bothe-Napa Valley State Park sits in the heart of Napa Valley between Calistoga and Saint Helena. The 1,900-acre park stretches along perennial Ritchey Creek and Mill Creek, reaching west into Sonoma County. Both creeks are tributaries of the Napa River, just to the east of Highway 29. The popular park offers camping, picnicking, swimming, horseback riding, and hiking along ten miles of trails. Many of the trails in the park are found along the Ritchey Creek canyon bottom. Several return options make it possible to vary the length of the hikes. This hike explores the lower end of Ritchey Creek. The trail leads through the lush riparian habitat of the creek bottom in a redwood-lined drainage. The route leads up one side of the creek and returns on the other side. The trail passes the old Hitchcock home site, dating back to the 1870s. Hike 58 continues up the canyon along the middle section of Ritchey Canyon. Hike 59 leads all the way to the headwaters of Ritchey Creek at the upper west end of the state park."
