"The South Grove Trail leads hikers through a mixed-conifer forest, dominated by towering old-growth sugar and ponderosa pines, to the grove of giant sequoias that straddle Big Trees Creek. The South Grove is within the Calaveras South Grove Natural Preserve, which contains more than 1,000 of these giant trees.
