The Whitewater River is the biggest river between the Mojave and the Colorado. It pours out of the San Bernardino Mountains and flows through Palm Springs before emptying into the Salton Sea. The river cuts a spectacular canyon down the southeast side of San Gorgonio. This hike starts at The Wildlands Conservancy’s Whitewater Preserve and follows the PCT up to a ridge where there are great views of the canyon. It then descends the ridge and returns along the river’s wide wash.
