La Purísima Mission State Historic Park Trail Professional Review and Guide
"There are over 25 miles of trail to explore on the mission grounds, and an almost infinite number of combinations can be put together to design your own hike and cover any amount of distance. The trails are made up of pavement, sand, and dirt. They are well signed and correspond with the names on the map, so you can find your way around quite easily. Watch out for poison oak. The trails are relatively free of this obnoxious plant, but it grows ubiquitously everywhere else. Ticks are also prevalent at certain times, so protect yourself and your pets. A mountain lion was spotted recently on the south loop, and these animals are common in coastal hills. Rattlesnakes are another thing to be mindful of, but are rarely spotted."
--Allen Riedel, Best Hikes with Dogs: Southern California (The Mountaineers Books).
