Sonora Pass Vista Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This short section of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) climbs through alpine fields to magnificent views out over the strikingly barren-looking (though hardly barren!) country around 9, 643-foot Sonora Pass. The high, jagged, barren-looking mountain to the south is Leavitt Peak (11, 569 feet), whose left (eastern) shoulder serves to carry the PCT southward through an apparent moonscape of mountains. If you get in close to the "moonscape," however, you’ll find a rich community of hardy life thriving there, though on a diminished scale, stunted by wind and the arctic conditions of an alpine winter."
