Short approaches coupled with inspiring views and steep terrain make this an excellent and popular area for the backcountry skier and snowboarder. Sawtooth Ridge is well known for its superb alpine mountaineering as well as a wide variety of ski terrain, from intermediate to expert. The relatively short approach to Cleaver Peak makes it a particularly good peak for snowboarding. You can see the ragged peaks of Sawtooth Ridge from Highway 395 and the town of Bridgeport, jutting above the glaciers and permanent snowfields.
