Mexican Border Scenic Drive: El Cajon to Boulevard Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A forty-nine-mile drive that parallels the United States and Mexico border between El Cajon near San Diego and Boulevard. The drive runs over rolling chaparral-covered mountains and broad valleys. This highway traverses rolling chaparral-covered hills and broad valleys in the southern Peninsular Ranges east of San Diego. The drive follows California Highway 94 along the United States and Mexico border between El Cajon and Boulevard and offers an excellent backroad adventure on a seldom traveled scenic route. The mountains separate the hilly country around San Diego from the hot, arid Colorado Desert that spreads eastward from the range base to the Imperial Valley and the Colorado River. The paved, two-lane highway has numerous pull-offs and side roads that explore the surrounding mountains. Traffic, generally local, is light to moderate. Special attractions: Tecate (Mexico), Potrero County Park, scenic views, hiking, bicycling. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
