Big Basin Redwoods State Park: Berry Creek Falls Trail Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a long but satisfying jaunt through the largest continuous stand of ancient coast redwoods south of San Francisco. Following the contours of the hillside, the Sunset Trail brings you through several deep canyons and cascading creeks. Berry Creek Falls Trail is the prize, with a series of waterfalls in a deep basin.

The Golden Cascade and Silver Falls feature just that: manes of silver water against golden earth. Berry Creek Falls is a 60-foot vertical sheet of white water against dark rocks. The Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail takes you back through more lush canyons."

Great trail, fun ride, some dirt road, some minor single-track sections. Good fun, beautiful scenery.

Bring a lock, and make the short hike to the Falls.

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"While the Bay Area is not particularly well-known for its abundance of waterfalls, Berry Creek Falls in Big Basin Redwoods State Park is an example of one that is as spectacular as any. Many people visit the falls by hiking from the main park headquarters located in the center of the Santa Cruz Mountains between Saratoga and Boulder Creek. That hike is not an easy one. Covering a distance of about 5 miles in each direction, the hike takes the better part of a day for most people. Another option is to ride a mountain bike in from a park entrance on the coast at Waddell Beach to a point from which a one-mile hike can be made. The falls are best visited in late-winter or in the springtime when the rains provide the maximum water run-off. Berry Creek Falls is only one of the falls to see. Farther upstream, less than a mile, are Silver Falls and Golden Falls Cascade. The trail along those falls is quite steep and hikers are aided by steps and a cable to provide added stability. This should not be missed." Read more
