This long east-west trail follows the old Pinyon Ridge jeep track, which is now closed to vehicular travel. The trail and mountain are named for an early day Borrego Valley cattle rancher. The remoteness of a high desert setting combined with wide vistas make this a pleasant spot at which to linger. It is also a good turnaround point for a representative sample of the west-central region of the park, high in the Grapevine Hills. The trail traverses a transitional mix of desert and mountain flora, including yucca, cholla, manzanita, juniper, and pinyon pine. Note: Reaching the trailhead requires a high-clearance vehicle.
