West Butte Borrego Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The twin peaks and eroded ravines of Borrego Mountain lie between the Borrego Badlands on the north and Lower Borrego Valley on the south. The area is laced with a network of unpaved roads of varying quality. Throughout the adjacent Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, any kind of vehicle may travel cross-country, but here (in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park) motorized travel is limited to street-legal vehicles, which must stay on the designated roads. The West Butte, with its sheer-cut ravines and slot canyons, is better for hiking than East Butte, which lies partly in the vehicular recreation area. Nestled against the southeast side of the West Butte is Hawk Canyon, the premier remote camping spot in this neck of the desert."
