South Fork Sheep Canyon Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Careful route finding is the key to safe passage through this canyon. The general navigation up and back down the canyon is obvious, but the route finding on a small scale is intricate. Some routes (especially going downhill) may look promising but lead to steep rock exposures, which can result in much wasted time spent backtracking. Other routes can lead to dead ends in the canyon bottom where it is difficult (or impossible) to climb out in the absence of help, so don’t jump or slide down rocks if you can’t determine the feasibility of the route ahead. Because of these difficulties, it is recommended that you don’t backpack through this canyon without first having traveled it with a light daypack. The rewards are a close-up view of an idyllic waterfall, glimpses of a half dozen more, and the pleasure of exploring a hidden valley seldom visited by humans."
