San Ysidro Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The eastern brow of San Ysidro Mountain overlooks Borrego Valley from an elevation of nearly 1 mile. Here, in the cool, pinyon-pine-and-juniper belt, you can experience a startling pseudo-aerial perspective of Anza-Borrego quite unlike that seen from any other land-based vantage point. On this hike, horizontal distance is trivial and vertical gain is everything. It’s a taxing but immensely satisfying journey. Every step upward takes you closer to the heavens and farther from the civilized world. The roads, dwellings, and windbreak-bordered fields etched on the floor of Borrego Valley always remain visible through the clear desert air, but they become more and more toy-like and abstract—as if viewed from space—as you climb."
