Panorama Overlook Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The short, well-traveled Panorama Overlook Trail climbs sharply up one of the ridge spurs of San Ysidro Mountain, offering a superb vista of Borrego Valley and its spectacular backdrop of mountains. Bring a map of the Anza-Borrego Desert region with you. From the flat area at the top of the trail, called Panorama Overlook, you can identify the major topographical features visible along the horizon from the northeast through the south: Coyote Mountain and the distant Santa Rosa Mountains, Fonts Point and the Borrego Badlands, and Pinyon Ridge and a slice of the Vallecito Mountains. Facing west, you have to crane your neck to follow the continuation of the rocky ridge you’re standing upon. This culminates about 4000 feet higher, on the crest of San Ysidro Mountain. Panorama Overlook is an excellent spot to witness the sunrise on the crisp mornings of fall and winter. Late afternoons are nice, too: You can watch the mountain shadows slowly stretch across Borrego Valley as the sun sinks unseen."
