Grapevine Mountain and Bitter Creek Trail

Grapevine Mountain & Bitter Creek Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a good hike to get acquainted with cross-country desert travel and “peak bagging.” You’ll make intimate visual contact (hopefully not physical contact) with cholla, hedgehog, beavertail, barrel, and fishhook cacti; in addition, you’ll see agave, catclaw, and mesquite—all thorny or prickly. There are boulders to scramble over on occasion, and wildlife trails to follow through the low brush. Winter months bring invigorating cool air to Grapevine Mountain, but the best months are usually March and April. This is the time to catch the peak of the cactus and succulent blooms. You’ll see everything from the pearl-like flower of the diminutive fishhook cactus to the showy magenta and red blossoms of the hedgehog and beavertail cacti."
