Cougar Canyon is a place where new worlds open up at every turn. There are more beautiful sights to see along a half mile of this canyon than in a full day’s hiking in many other parts of Anza-Borrego. Cahuilla Indians used seasonal camps in the area around the mouth of the canyon as recently as about 200 years ago, and the evidence left behind in the form of bedrock morteros (grinding holes) and ceremonial caves adds another interesting dimension to a hike here.
