Rice Canyon Trail Professional Review and Guide
"On the scrub-covered slopes of Rice Canyon, hardy coast cholla cactus plants raise their asymmetric arms in what seems a gesture of defiance against the surrounding phalanxes of cookie-cutter, pseudo-Spanish-style homes. What remains of the formerly obscure and totally rural Rice Canyon has been incorporated into the city of Chula Vista’s Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve. There’s a fine, wide trail following it for 2 miles, down to as far as H St., 1 mile east of I-805."
--Jerry Schad, Afoot & Afield: San Diego County (Wilderness Press).
I enjoyed this pleasant out and back walk so close to home. At times I forgot I was surrounded by the nice homes that overlooked this canyon trail. I ran into only four people during the 90 minutes it took me to complete the trail.
