Fern Falls

Fern Falls Professional Review and Guide

"This cascade is not a destination in and of itself, but the short hike down to Fern Falls is easy to check off while exploring other waterfalls in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area.

It has the “falls” moniker, but Fern Falls—at least the section accessible by the trail—is more of a cataract: a series of small drops on a stream not far off the Gold Lake Highway. The short walk to the cascade is easy and pleasant; the setting is pretty; and the stream, fl ow permitting, is inviting. Rock outcroppings along the trail off er fine perches from which to watch the water tumble, or to gaze down the Gray Eagle Creek valley, or to look up the wooded ridges toward Mount Elwell."
