The seldom-used Tyee Lakes Trail provides a steep but short route to a string of delightful lakes set in a high granite basin well east of the Sierra Crest. The 3-mile journey to Clara Lake is well suited for either a day hike, enhanced by a refreshing swim and a picnic lunch, or an overnight backpack. Thanks to the limited pressure, anglers should find plenty of trout in the Tyee Lakes to keep themselves occupied. A 0.75-mile, 600-foot climb to a view from the plateau of Table Mountain is a worthy trip extension.
