This is one of the great classic trips of the Sierra, visiting some of the range’s most beautiful features: three superb alpine lakes basins, Dusy, Evolution, and Humphreys; three magnificent Sierra canyons, Le Conte Canyon, Evolution Valley, and lower Goddard Canyon; one of the Sierra’s few backcountry hot springs, Blayney Hot Spring; and two magnificent creek-and-lake drainages, South Fork Bishop Creek and North Fork Bishop Creek. Even though the route is heavily traveled—much of it is on the John Muir Trail—the country through which it passes is vast, and you’ll find alpine solitude if you want it, look for it, and perhaps walk a little off-trail for it. Did I mention the fabulous dayhiking available at many places along this trip? More on that in the Trip Description!
