This was one of the best walks I've ever done. The most amazing, varied, magical scenery - and it's only 6 miles from a very crowded lake and campsite. Midnight lake is beautiful - we spent a layover day climbing up waterfalls and scrambling over big fun boulders. Next time we go, we'll hike to Hell Divers lakes on the layover day. We went on the 4th of July weekend, and there were several people camping at Midnight Lake, but I imagine that on other weekends you would be entirely solo. Blue Lake was very crowded, definitely a dozen or more groups camping, and many day hikers. The only negative is that there were *lots* of mosquitoes. LOTS. We camped where there was the most wind, and that worked fairly well until the wind died down, at which point we were under siege. I recommend bringing jungle juice or the most powerful deet-based product you can find. It's totally worth it though.

One of my favorites from the past. Went middle of the week and couldn’t have picked a more perfect time. Perfect weather. Spent the night here with not a soul around. Then next night was back at Baboon lake. Hope to get back there but still so much more. Highly recommend this hike.
