Long Lake

Long Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"For those who have had a couple of days to acclimate to the altitude, lovely Long Lake in the John Muir Wilderness is a moderate hike with an extremely scenic gradual ascent above angler-dotted South Lake. Less-acclimated hikers should make it a cooler morning jaunt with more time for “catch your breath” stops on the shadier stretches.

Your dog will love bounding across the occasional seasonal streams up to the lakeside meadow where you can enjoy his antics from the shoreline boulders. The scenery and not the altitude will take your breath away at Long Lake. The South Lake Basin is your portal to the John Muir Wilderness and the shores of postcard- perfect Long Lake. Along the way, you will cross two footbridges at seasonal streams. These refreshing stops for your pooch give you time to enjoy the summer display of deep pink shooting stars, white ranger buttons, and purple lupine."
