This trip offers unusually quick and easy access to some of the most spectacular alpine wilderness in California. A cluster of striking granite peaks surround the headwaters of Middle Fork Bishop Creek, with glacier-clad Mt. Darwin topping the bunch at 13,830 feet. With many beautiful, trout-filled lakes in this superlative landscape, it is easy to find sweet, out-of-the-way spots.

Went with friends to this beautiful setting. We did the hike in in one day, and it was pretty gruelling - and after a while seemingly endless. Midnight Lake is beautiful, though there are no really great camp sites there. The day hikes from a midnight lake campsite are amazing and I wanted to stay longer to explore the area more than I had. If you go, definitely bite the bullet and climb up to Blue Heaven Lake at 11,000 + feet. Also, don't miss TopseyTurvey lake. Great for boulder hopping and one of the most beautiful lakes i've been to yet.
