Amazing and magical are two words that spring to mind when I think of Hot Creek. Amazing is the statistic that Hot Creek is the most productive stream in the western United States. A California Department of Fish & Game electroshock survey once counted 11,000 fish per mile—a remarkable number for such a narrow creek 7,000 feet above sea level and managed entirely as wild trout water. Such an abundance of fish draws anglers from everywhere to Hot Creek. Types of Fish: Brown and rainbow trout. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
