Ragged Point Nature Trail

Ragged Point Nature Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike descends the steep canyon beside Blackswift Falls, which plunges hundreds of feet onto the soft black sand of a secluded cove at the edge of the Pacific. This short, steep hike is subject to washouts each winter and is moderately overgrown with coastal brush in the spring. Watch for poison oak and ticks, which cling to trailside plants."

"This hike crosses a marine terrace to Ragged Point, which is actually located 1 .8 miles south of the Ragged Point Inn (Hike 98). From the point are overlooks of the scalloped coastline, a sandy beach cove, offshore rocks pounded by the surf, and Bald Top along the Santa Lucia Mountains. San Carpoforo Creek empties into the ocean north of Ragged Point. The well-defined trail crosses through Hearst Corporation ranchland to the headland. Although there are no public easements, the well-worn trails have been used by surfers, fishermen, and hikers for many years. Portions of the bluff top cliffs are unstable and caution is advised."
