Limekiln Trail

Big Sur, California

Limekiln Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This short hike makes for an interesting diversion on a road trip up the Big Sur Coast. Tiny Limekiln State Park hosts an excellent beach and some fine second-growth redwood groves, but the real attraction are the four rusting behemoths that give the park its name. Used in the 1880s to convert local limestone to industrial lime, the kilns still serve as a reminder of the lengths to which people went to make a living in this wild land."
