Andrew Molera State Park

Andrew Molera State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Andrew Molera State Park presents a fantastic coastal adventure. The trail climbs over high hills with exceptional views of the Big Sur coastline and the mountains of the Ventana Wilderness and before following low seaside bluffs past a hidden, hikers-only beach on the way back to the trailhead.

The coastal terrain around Andrew Molera State Park is gentler than most of the rest of the Big Sur region. Rather than steep mountainsides thrusting upward out of the Pacific Ocean, the land has low rolling hills and a broad, grassy plain. This distinct geography results in part from the presence of the Big Sur River, which meets the sea at the nexus of the rolling hills and the open plain."

"Andrew Molera State Park is unspoiled Big Sur beachfront at its very best. The park, a favorite of hikers and campers, is relatively undeveloped. The park has meadows, the idyllic Big Sur River, a sprawling coastline, and a mountain crest with awe-inspiring ocean views. The Beach Trail, which shows off much of what the region has to offer, can be completed as a loop with the Creamery Meadows Trail, or as an out-and-back hike." Read more

We hiked this, rather than mtn biking it. We have done this trail many times and always enjoy the experience. We actually went up to the ridge on Hidden Trail this time for a change. It's a bit steep, but not bad at all. When you reach the ridge, it's fairly easy the rest of the way up to the end, where it meets Panorama Trail. We went back down that way, which you can't do on a bike, and enjoyed the views as we paralleled the ocean. It's well worth the 3+ hour journey!
