Big Pine Canyon: Sage Flat Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Big Pine is a narrow, glacier-carved canyon and the site of Palisades Glacier, an ice age remnant and the southernmost glacier in the United States. Palisades can be reached by a strenuous 12-mile trail.

Other trails lead from the canyon to lakes and streams in the John Muir Wilderness. Four public campgrounds are located near the western end of the canyon, all within 0.5 mile of one another. Elevations vary from 7,400 to 7,700 feet. Stay limit fourteen days. Open approximately May through October, depending on snow conditions."
