Healing Waters Big Bend Hot Springs

Healing Waters (Big Bend) Hot Springs Professional Review and Guide

"A series of hot springs on the banks of the Pit River, harnessed by a rustic resort. Several soaking opportunities range from concrete tubs to rock-lined pools in the river. The resort is under renovation, and the owners are building new tubs. Several hot springs in different locations feed this pleasant resort in a beautiful location. In the three manmade pools on the resort grounds the temperature is controlled by adding or subtracting river water. There are also several hot springs at the river’s edge that have been channeled to form small pools. Here again river water can be added or subtracted to create the ideal temperature. Although this is not a secluded hot springs experience, you can generally have one of the pools to yourself and get some solitude. At about 2,000 feet elevation, the resort is low enough to avoid snow and is open year-round. Primitive, although some of the pools are manmade (concrete)."

The hot springs looked beautiful with the raging river below. We drove for four hours (partly because of a poor map and slighty spotty directions) to reach the pools, only to be turned away from a very grumpy, unhelpful old man who we assumed to be the camp host. He was very rude and kind of creepy. He told us we should have called in advance. We told him that we had called the day before using the only phone number we found on line. Apparently the number is completely wrong. Arriving home after driving all day with no hot spring soak, my friend and I were both extremely dissapointed. I will try to go again when the weather is nicer. I still have no idea why the grumpy old man wouldn't let us take a soak. There were two other people soaking in the pools! He made fun of us for driving all the way from Ashland on a rainy day. Aside from the old man the pools looked beautiful and I would love to try to go again. For now, I would rather drive to the Umpqua Hot Springs where one can soak in hot springs completely surrounded by nature and not by a trailer park.
