This trip is a big one, tracing a pair of delightful creeks down the length of the San Bernardino Mountains. Although it passes near some of Southern California’s biggest mountain resorts and through areas frequented by ATVs, you’ll generally feel like you are completely away from civilization. You’ll gradually descend through the major ecosystems of the region, from mountain forests of pine, fir, and oak through chaparral and into the Mojave Desert, following the beautiful canyons of Holcomb and Deep Creeks. Three major wildfires have affected large segments of the trail since 1999, and you’ll see both devastation and regeneration.
