Zim Zim Falls Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"The hike to Zim Zim Falls is a beautiful journey through lonely country. The trail follows Zim Zim Creek most of the way to the falls and crosses expansive meadows surrounded by oak forests and large swaths of chaparral. The waterfall is one of the highest and prettiest in the Wine Country.

Zim Zim Creek flows through the 33,992-acre Knoxville Wildlife Area, a part of Napa County’s remote northern backcountry. Although this area is semiarid from the lack of significant rainfall, it is remarkably lush. Majestic oak trees populate the hillsides and valley floors and are interspersed with gray pine and large swaths of chaparral. In some areas, poor soil with a high concentration of serpentine has resulted in very sparse plant communities. Nonetheless, throughout this area flow a few large creeks, among the most significant of which is Eticuera Creek. This creek is among the larger contributors to Lake Berryessa."

"The Knoxville Wildlife Area is north of Lake Berryessa near the Yolo County line. The rugged terrain stretches over 20,000 acres, with elevations ranging from 1,000 feet to 2,200 feet. The diverse habitat forms the western slope of Blue Ridge between the Cache Creek drainage and the Putah Creek Drainage. It is a critical wildlife corridor for animals such as bears, mountain lions, and golden and bald eagles. The land also contains some of the state’s most biologically important habitats, including oak woodlands and serpentine chaparral, two threatened vegetation types in California."
